![]() ![]() Later in 2020 the Thai govt launched a program to subsidize the cost of domestic tourism. Another plus was that the waterpark wasn’t open to outsiders. This new resort, on the site of the old Grand Cabana Resort adjacent to Emerald Cove, added a very nice waterpark which was great for families with young kids. ![]() However, it didn’t turn out too badly for the owners of The Splash. It probably wasn’t the best time to open a new resort on Koh Chang. Hotels with WaterparksĬast your mid back to April 2020, Thailand wasn’t allowing anyone in and everyone was freaking out because of this new covid-19 thing. So here’s a quick run down of just some of the new places visitors will see when they return for the 2022 – 23 high season. And since the beginning of covid in March 2020 there have been quite a few worthy new openings on the island. Often the best time to start a new business is when it seems like the worst time. And I’m pretty sure that there will be more during 2023 if the number of tourists doesn’t increase dramatically. Nor care about the people they are serving. It’s true that a lot of shops & businesses on Koh Chang did shut down due to the economic effects of the covid pandemic. I was thoroughly embarrassed by this very rude and foolish young boy.Įat here at your own risk, the food is generally good but the staff have no idea how to deal with a legitimate complaint, We re ordered this Saturday and they remembered us and said to come and collect it, when I arrived I was met with the same young man who had normally been very polite, this time he was aggressive and told me they don’t give food away for free and demanded I pay 50 %, I reminded him it was a replacement for food that went in the bin and they had offered the replacement meal, he just kept repeating that they don’t give away free food, all of this in front of others waiting for food. We ordered a meal, collected it and when we got home found it was the wrong order, and in fact was of a much lower quality than usual, it ended up in the bin, we called them and they were very apologetic and offered to replace the meal or refund, we said that we would re order at some point and they said that would be ok and we could have that free of charge. We live locally and eat here and have take aways quote regularly, we have always enjoyed the food and found the staff friendly and polite…until…. I’m really sorry this is my honest review and am saddened by what we found. Again though I must say the staff were lovely. The whole place felt wrong it felt as though the landlord had gone to Thailand and picked up an unskilled chef from a poor region and returned to U.K. My son asked for a coke but non was available other than diet. The bill came to just on £100 that was with only 2 alcoholic drinks and 4 soft drinks. We asked for a desert menu which was non existent the only desert on offer was a very poor quality ice cream. Saying this we did eat everything as we had starved all day and portions were small. The nan bread was shop bought tiny and heated up in microwave where outsides were so hard could hardly be eaten. The rice was perfect and the sauce while very thick was very, very tasty. I had a beef red curry, the bowl was full but ingredients were minimal, maybe, 2 green beans cut into thirds, less than a fifth of a pepper, the beef virtually non existent, genuinely about a fifth/sixth of a normal sized sirloin steak cut up into tiny pieces. My husband had a vegetable curry which was tasty with plentiful vegetables. Other son crispy chicken, this was so salty I really didn’t want him eating it ( he’s 11) the chicken was so crispy it actually wasn’t there anymore. The main meals, son had chicken satay sticks, plentiful and tasty, he was happy. Non of the starters seemed fresh, other than the Tempura I firmly believe they were not made on site. Vegetable tempura, was very nice and my husband had the samosas which again was very nice. The Thai fish cakes were presented as 6 little blini type pancakes, there was absolutely no hint of freshness or fish, very unpalatable. The starters, spring rolls, tiny, finger sized but a good portion. This place is a traditional old country pub but the decor was stuck in 1970’s, vinyl seats, swirly artex, no atmosphere and nearly empty.
